When I listened back to the New Zealand conference I was like whoa this is pretty harsh. Sometimes I speak with no filter. I did not mean to be so harsh on the subject of Christianity being that I was a well known Christian. When I was at my Mom's funeral a fucking stranger came up to me and said, "I hope you've accepted Jesus as your saviour so you can see your Mother again!" My entire life, being an african american, Christianity was forced down my throat. Since I was a child, I would ask questions like, "so are little babies that can't speak yet going to hell also?" I one thousand percent believe in God, I believe in Karma, I believe in being a good person. I'm not trying to tell people what they should believe or not believe. To each is his own. I was in situations where someone constantly used Jesus to show me how baaaad a person I was or how not perfect or not Christ like I was. When I say I don't want to be Christ like I'm saying I'm fine with not being perfect. I'm fine with being a human being. I'm happy with just that.

But you know, sometimes Christianity's got kinda of a misconstrued view. So often people use Christ to condemn, and they'll go around holding signs of John 3:16.
But what about John 3:17?
And God did not send his son to condemn the world, but to save it!
It ain't about what you do or even why you do it... but it boils down to one simple question.
God is a relational God. So he asks you.
"Do you love me?"
That's all it is man.
If you love Christ with a full and complete heart, you'll slowly become like him.
But the goal isn't perfection. The goal is love.
Just keep that love locked down, and you're straight.

I figured it didn't come out right, but I still kinda agree with what you said though. When I was younger I used to ask questions about God and Christianity that would drive my mother up the wall and she'd just tell me to go ask the pastor. lol
You still did good in the interview though, mistakes and all. It just shows up even more that you are only human and there is no real need to be perfect, you'll just be yourself make mistakes, fix them and move on.....best way to be I'll say!

When it comes to religion no one has the right to judge you because that's the job of God. If they were true Christians they would know that. Your job if you want to represent the Christian walk is to try your best to be like Jesus and repent when you sin...your mistakes are sometimes used to bless another person's life and belittling someone who may be down is not Christian-like. Unfortunately people hide behind their religion to make excuses for mistreating other...that is not in the Bible, that is just the nature of man! Don't let anyone question your faith ever....that is the relationship between you and your high power if you choose to believe in one. I stepped away from my foundation because of trials but my believe and faith brought me back...I'm just not the typical in church every Sunday Christian ;-)

I don't think you should have to explain yourself on that matter...you of all "rappers" has always been the only one (common too) talking about god and jesus and I think that in itself has opened so many doors for so many struggling young people...i had a situation in my life a couple of years back and I needed to make a decision to turn my life over to a higher power or continue to die....it was very tuff for me, cuz I didn't think you could be cool and have a god in your life, people like you, common, talib kweli, you guys reassured me that it still could be. Now I like to let younger people know that it's ok to believe in god, it's cool and it doesn't have to be dorky....I stopped drinking and doing drugs almost 5 years ago and that's why i turned to god, and i stress to all young people aswell as to believe in god but not to drink and drug, it's cool not to and life is so much bigger than getttin f'd up...thanks kanye, one

@Baraka : The Bible does not say that there is another chance to get clean. If you hear the word but don't believe it, then it's totally your opiinion, but don't be thinking "if it is true, i'll get it right next time" because there is no next time. Choose what you want to believe, but mixing it up clearly doesn't show devotion or that you actually 100% believe in a religion.

I don't think it was that bad personally. If u really read in maybe, but don't drive urself crazy over what was literally said. the context of how u said it was obvious that u meant by it being ok not to be perfect. perhaps it's because i'm not christian myself, nor had any religious upbringing. so to me, it wasn't no big deal. i believe in karma, i believe in self-faith and love, i believe in treating others with respect. just basic stuff. so to me that comment didn't hit home.

No one can judge on the purity and love in your heart! Your believe in your heart! A lot of people use the name of Jesus to judge others or focus on the negative. Kanye, from my white experience, a lot of people confuse religion with Christianity. It's possible to be religious and not be a Christian, don't know if I'm making sense. And then there are many who claim to be Christian and go to church but aren't. You can have church and commune with God in your home, which is what I've had to do. I'm a Born-Again Christian, but I also don't force my beliefs.
That was the wrong time for anyone to say that to you. I truly believe you WILL see her again. I think you're doing a good thing here and have helped a lot of people with your messages. And maybe many accepted Christ after hearing "Jesus Walks," intent or not.
Your relationship with Him is between you and Him, no stranger can judge you.
No one is perfect, either. You just be Kanye-like, OK? That's who we love, and that's who God loves.
