Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be.  He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song.  He had all of America rapping this summer.  If that ain't Hip Hop then what is?  A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain't even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it's 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit?  Niggas always talk about the golden age but for a 13 year old kid, this is the golden age!!!  That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning... that's Nas level shit... he just put it over some steel drums which is also some Nas shit if you had the 2nd album cassette with the bonus track "Silent Murder" on it.  In closing... new niggas get ya money$$$$$$$$$$  Keep this shit fresh and original.... ain't no fuckin' rules to this shit and that's what real hip hop is to me.

Soulja boy was right about how Ice-T and other rappers who say hip hop is dead should help out these new rappers who are blamed for killing hip hop. Soulja Boy made a good point on that regard. Hip hop is different for everyone. For me, you, Common, and Lupe is hip hop at its finest.

Why are these hip-hop complainers(most of them aren't making money these days) acting like dances are new?
Back in the day you had the mash potatoe, twist, shotgun, booty bump and a plethora of other dance crazes.
Hip hop or not...Soulja Boy brought people together, laughing, smiling and just having a great time. People take stuff too seriously sometimes. We got high gas prices, a war going on, and an election coming up...why not just "get silly".

hip-hop is always transforming but i gotta disagree with you on this Ye, I mean it's personal preference whether you dig soulja boy, but he's not a rapper. He made a beat, good for him, then said the same shit over and over again, then called himself a rapper. I'm a kid and i was listening to rap this summer because of the shit you put out, what lupe did and N.E.R.D not what he did. What Ice-T did wasn't totally relevant, but if no one was gonna state their opinion then he stepped up and voiced his and a lot of other people, so props to Ice-T for keeping it real. In the end that's what hip-hop is to me, stating you're opinion. I don't see that in anything soulja boy does.

Ice-T has such an ad antiquitatem argument. Just because hip-hop was one way many years ago, doesn't mean it should be the same today. Hip-hop has evolved and changed, and its ignorant for Ice-T to think that hip-hop should be the same now as when he was making records in the 80s and 90s.
But on the other hand Soulja Boy shouldn't really be a standard for new hip-hop artists, he was kind of a one hit wonder, and he got lucky with a hit song. I still give him mad props for getting the whole country singing Crank 'Dat, but he doesn't have the status Ice-T has within the hip-hop community, so him saying that shit isn't justified.
